Flash Electronics China Achieves ISO 14001

Electronics Manufacturer is Committed to an Environmental Management System

FREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2004) – Flash Electronics, a leading global contract electronics manufacturing (CEM) company, announces that its Suzhou facility in China qualified and passed ISO 14001 certification. The ISO 14001 standards were developed for companies to manage environmental considerations as a by-product of manufacturing. Certified organizations strive to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities and to continually improve its environmental performance. Flash Electronics is committed to maintaining their ISO 14001 quality at all of its facilities. Their China and U.S. manufacturing plants are on track for certification to be complete before 2006.

“Environmental management is a big job,” says Chuck Word, corporate quality manager at Flash Electronics. “Every aspect of our business from the administrative offices to the warehouses to the plant floor is focused on an environmental approach in delivering superior service and products to our global customers. The investment we make now in the ISO will help our customers and our business in the near future. ”

All of Flash Electronics’ equipment is ISO-certified, but the challenge for the manufacturer’s team is in working with customers to qualify environmentally sound parts that maintain best quality performance such as unleaded parts. The European Union and Japan passed laws restricting the import of goods containing lead. Manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that sell products in the European or Asian markets must comply. Flash Electronics is aggressively implementing quality systems throughout its sites in order to support customer needs.

Flash Electronics provides turnkey manufacturing to customers beginning in design stages through prototype, testing and full production. With its extended offshore manufacturing capacity and the efficiency of local program management, Flash Electronics supports customers with the highest standards of quality while minimizing cost. Among its customers, Flash Electronics has proven successes in minimizing capital investment costs, manufacturing complete product families and following OEM partners’ required distribution and product launches in multiple global locations.

About ISO 14000
The ISO 14000 series is a family of environmental management standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), one of the world's principal voluntary standards development bodies. The 14001 registration refers to a company's Environmental Management System. An Environmental Management System is a structure that allows an organization to assess and control the environmental impact of its activities, products or services. The overall aim of the International Standard is to support environmental protection and prevent pollution in balance with socio-economic needs.
