Flash Electronics Invests in Trilogy 5000™

PCB Assembly and Prototyping Software Cuts Product Development Operating Cost in Half

FREMONT, Calif. (February 8, 2004) – Flash Electronics’ recent investment in Valor’s Trilogy 5000™ pre-production engineering software increases the scope of value-added services to existing and new customers looking for flexible and faster new product introductions (NPI). Valor’s process preparation technology will enable Flash Electronics’ U.S. development teams to reduce prototype build time and associated costs. Flash Electronics NPI Services team uses Trilogy primarily in the early design stage to validate manufacturing information and implement an efficient CAD-to-manufacture process. The software reads design files including Gerber files, BOMs and best-in-class design for manufacturability (DFM) and diagnoses potential conflicts in matters such as compatibility of parts to the design, compatibility of PCB layout to manufacturing equipment and processes, test point accessibility, PCB thermal distribution and PCB inner layer connection.

“When Flash Electronics finds problems in the PCB layout before a product goes to the fab house, we can significantly reduce the time and expense of prototype runs in new product development”, says Mark Ho, managing director of NPI Services, Flash Electronics US. “Design Engineers are focused on the functionality of the product. We make sure the product can be manufactured cost effectively before it is passed on to production.”

Flash Electronics has determined that prototype runs can be significantly reduced. With Trilogy taking much of the guesswork out of non-verified design layouts, customers appreciate better quality assemblies, lower cost and shorter periods of time to move products to market. Flash Electronics’ expansion to PCB layout, PCB layout review, Material Management, BOM clean up and AVL selection complements their strengths in small to high volume new product production.
